Dental Cleaning Exam

Every now and then your body needs a tune-up, and that includes regular oral care to ensure you keep your healthy, beautiful smile your entire life! Berkeley Hills Dentistry proudly uses the latest dental technology available to have you walking out of the office after every dental cleaning with a fresh, healthy mouth.

What to Expect During an Exam and Cleaning Visit

The most important part of every regular office visit is a thorough, in-depth cleaning performed by one of our experienced dental hygienists. They will carefully remove harmful plaque and other buildup from your gum line and take out buildup in the hard-to-reach recesses of your mouth. When that’s finished, we’ll polish and floss your teeth to leave your mouth tasting great and your teeth glimmering.

Afterward, your dentist will stop in, review your x-rays and deliberately go through your mouth tooth by tooth. He’ll be looking for any small cavities that may be forming and other possible signs of trouble, so that any potential problem can be addressed before it turns into something bigger.

Why We Use Digital Low Dose X-Rays

As part of our exam, we’ll regularly take x-rays of your mouth to give our staff a closer look at your teeth and jawbone. These allow us to find hidden issues that may not be visible to the naked eye and see things like impacted teeth, decay between teeth or other hard-to-identify abscesses.

For our dental cleanings in Berkeley, we choose to use digital low dose x-rays. This technology lets us get a full view of your entire lower face quickly and safely. It gives our dentists a look at your bone structure, your jawline and your teeth. We also collect the scans digitally, so we can manipulate the image on the computer to view your mouth from every angle.

What Is Flouride?

Fluoride is a natural tooth-cleaner that can be found in water sources, and we provide our patients with an additional fluoride boost when they visit our office in Berkeley if necessary. When you receive a fluoride rinse during an exam, the fluoride is absorbed into the enamel and serves to protect your teeth. When you eat or drink certain foods, the acid can wear down and weaken your teeth, over time, and fluoride is a great, all-natural way to counter that.

Value of Preventative Care

As much as we like to see our patients, we’d rather it only be when you come in for a cleaning every six months or elective cosmetic dentistry procedures. The way to do that is to keep on top of your six month cleaning schedule, since nearly every oral health problem is easier to treat the sooner we catch it. Our cleanings and exams serve complementary purposes, with the cleaning staving off tooth decay and cavities, and the exams spotting any early signs of decay or cavities before they become a serious problem.

We know coming to the dentist can sometimes be scary, but because we offer sedation dentistry there should be no reason to skip out on your regular cleaning. A decision your future mouth will thank you for!
